We were talking to a lady here at Streaky Bay this afternoon and she told us "It never rains in Streaky bay, we don't even sell umbrellas". Well the curse of the travelling Odell's has hit Streaky Bay and we've had our first day of rain since leaving home. Much cooler temperatures, we've had to pull out our winter clothes, such a change from the hot 38 of yesterday.
We spent the morning sight seeing...
First stop Murphy's Haystacks. These massive granite boulders were buried underground some 30 000 years ago and subsequent erosion has gradually revealed the form they take today.
2nd stop - Point Labatt Sea lion Colony. Some 30 ish kms along a very corrugated dirt road. The sea lions were very close and easily seen with the naked eye. It was however very windy and incredibly cold!!
3rd Stop - Dave was after a surf so we went checking out some of the surf beaches, he will need to wait a little longer for that surf the water was so flat no swell at all not even a ripple.
On the way back to Streaky Bay we had a close encounter with a massive kangaroo. We were cruising along happily and this massive big red jumped out across the road in front of us, don't know about him but we sure got a fright and a half.
The rest of the day has been spent with a walk around town, down the jetty and just hanging out keeping dry in the van which by the way - isn't leaking - thank goodness it appears that Jayco have finally fixed that old problem!!
Hoping to see the sun again tomorrow.
