We've left Port Augusta this morning and made our way to a lovely little town called Streaky Bay. Not a long drive but took us a while as lots to see and do along the way to break the trip up today.
First stop Kimba - the half way across Australia marker and the home of the big Galah....
Onto Wudinna for Polding Rock a massive granite formation that is over 1538 million years old. We walked and climbed all out it but it was too big to make it all the way over and around. Thomas decided that it was like walking on Mars.
Back in the car and on a bit further to Tcharkuldu Hill (or chicken rock as we affectionately called it as none of us can correctly pronounce its name) for lunch. After lunch we walked and climbed around the rock here again too - locusts in the grass kept jumping up our legs - YUCK!!!
This is the toilet at chicken rock - typical outback dunny - I must add none of us used it!!
Then back in the car again and onto Pildappa Rock - this is the 2nd largest monolith (rock) in Australia - Ayres Rock is the biggest. We walked around the base of it (about 2kms) and climbed all over the top of it. It was a stinking hot 38 degrees whilst we were out there. Thankfully there was a breeze blowing so it wasn't as bad as it sounds. Such an awesome rock - well worth the drive up the bumpy dirt road!
Back in the car again and onto Streaky Bay. Here we are setup on a waterfront site. When the tide goes out you can walk out for miles. The water is lovely and warm and the air temperature is much cooler - we are all actually wearing jumpers tonight - amazing what a difference a sea breeze makes!!
Before I finish tonight's post I promised Doc some photos of Dave skateboarding - so here they are ...
Distance travelled today = 466 kms
Total distance travelled = 2134 kms
Hope you enjoy!Kerryn
